Tyler Martinez is a graduate student pursuing a M.S.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs and serves as a graduate assistant for the Cox Scholars Program. Tyler recently earned a B.A. in African American Studies from Emory University, where he also held numerous leadership roles across a variety of organizations, including serving as senior advisor to the Emory chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and president of the Emory Student Government Association (SGA). As an undergraduate, Tyler discovered a deep passion for creating spaces grounded in belonging and community where students could authentically be themselves while feeling supported and valued.

As a first-generation and low-income college student originally from Brooklyn, Tyler is deeply committed to ensuring that students have the tools they need to navigate their undergraduate journeys and flourish in and outside of the classroom. Tyler is so excited to work alongside such a talented, passionate, and driven group of Cox Scholars and looks forward to learning more about their experiences, aspirations, and the impact they hope to make during their time at IU.

Tyler is a big lover of fashion, music, and good food. He firmly believes all three (and a little caffeine) can completely shape the energy of your day. New to Bloomington, Tyler welcomes any recommendations for places to go or things to try in the area.
