Legene White, Director of the Cox Research Scholars Program since 2012, enjoys encouraging the scholars’ exploration of research and other IU opportunities. With knowledge of faculty and their areas of expertise, Legene is a resource for any undergraduate interested in pursuing research. She also connects students to the activities and grant programs of Hutton Honors College.

Legene feels fortunate to have pursued a career working with college students, starting with an internship in student affairs as an undergraduate at Gettysburg College. That led to a M.Ed. in college counseling and student affairs at the University of Delaware and residential life positions at SUNY-Cortland and Syracuse University.

Legene moved to Indiana University in 1983 with her husband, Jeff White, Professor of Environmental Science in SPEA. After several years as an Academic Advisor, Legene joined the Department of Telecommunications and built an alumni affairs program that connected students with alumni for internships and career guidance. Legene won a 2012 Gold Award for Best Student-Alumni Program from the CASE Region V professional organization for the MultiVisions Communications Conference. Among Legene’s “favorites” are hiking with her golden retrievers, cycling, enjoying Bloomington’s many cultural events, and her two adult children.
